Chagas, a life-threatening disease spread by parasitic bugs is being dubbed the “new AIDS of the Americas” by researchers because its initial symptoms are hard to detect. The life-threatening parasite is transmitted by biting beetles, and can cause a person’s heart and intestines to swell and burst. According to a lengthy editorial in the journal PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, Chagas disease is slowly — and surreptitiously — spreading to the U.S. from Latin America.

Flattered, but no. I was born and raised in North Carolina. I have never lived in New York.
I think my living-in-Brooklyn boat has sailed. We have a house and stable jobs in North Carolina, and I rather like not being in debt. When we decide to start a family, I think North Carolina will treat us well.

My Zombie Apocalypse Plan of Survival (ZAPS) consists entirely of stockpiling food, supplies and ammunition and heading immediately to the coast. The wife and dog are coming. I’ll probably rendezvous with some friends — strength in numbers — and formulate a more intelligent plan.
We’ll need one of my friends that went to medical school and one of my friends that was in the military (luckily they’re in the same general area). Also, we’ll need to plan for a long time out, so lots of coats and scarves and gloves packed.
I’m getting a dozen on my way home. I wish there was a donut cake I could buy…I’m coming over and stealing your box…kidding…maybe…
